The decision to implement a major cooperation project with Japan was made as part of an official visit to this country by the President of Uzbekistan in December last year.
At the same time, a resolution was signed providing for the expansion and strengthening of the bilateral dialogue between Uzbekistan and Japan, the NMMC press service reports. In accordance with this document, a roadmap has been approved for the timely implementation of investment projects and trade contracts.
One of the points of this practical action plan is the implementation of projects for the conclusion of long-term export contracts by the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine.
NMMC is the only producer of one of the export-oriented products in the republic - natural uranium. Natural uranium accounts for the bulk of the plant’s exports (over 90%). The geography of uranium exports includes Japan, the USA, India, China and South Korea. Today, Japanese companies such as Itochu and Marubeni are the main buyers of uranium mined by the plant.
