Negotiations are underway with the Uzbek side regarding an agreement on the supply of natural gas to Tajikistan in 2020, said the first deputy head of “Tajiktransgaz” OJSC, Shavkat Shoimzoda at a press conference in Dushanbe on January 27th. He noted that it is planned to agree on the supply of Uzbek fuel to the republic in the amount of up to 200 million cubic meters.
According to Shoimzod, 140 million cubic meters of natural gas was imported from Uzbekistan in the amount of $ 17.7 million last year. He stressed that, compared with 2018, the supply of Uzbek fuel to Tajikistan increased 2.6 times: from 55 million cubic meters (by amount of $ 6.9 million). Shoimzoda noted that the Tajik aluminum company is the main consumer of Uzbek “blue fuel”.
Also, fuel from a neighboring country is received by some other enterprises, in particular the Dushanbe thermal power station.
We recall that the supply of natural gas from Uzbekistan to Tajikistan has been restored since April 2018 after a six-year break.
