The main driver of economic growth in Tajikistan in 2019, the relevant departments of the country called the industrial sector. Real growth of the economy of the republic last year amounted to 7.5%. This is the highest rate (along with 2012) in the past decade.
“This indicator was achieved due to the growth of real industrial production by 13.4%, agricultural products by 7.1%, trade turnover by 8% and paid services by 1.6%," said President Emomali Rahmon during his appeal to parliament at the end of last year.
Ore and energetics are the engines of the Tajik industry. According to the Ministry of Industry, last year the republic produced industrial products worth more than 27.5 billion somoni, which is 3.8 billion somoni more than in 2018. Mining and energy accounted for half of the total output - 25.2% and 24.7%, respectively.
Comparatively, the share of the food industry (19.5%) and construction (10%) is also high. Meanwhile, the highest growth in industrial production last year compared to 2018 was recorded in the engineering sector (29.6%), energetics (19.6%), mining (17.7%), construction (14.3 %).
